YouTube has decided to adopt one new policy of moderation of the violent content in video games on the platform. Starting today the violence in video games will therefore be treated like any other scripted content. This means that there will be fewer restrictions and new content will only require approval instead of being banned for certain age groups.
However, Google will continue to moderate videos of real violence in a more restrictive way. Announcing the change, a YouTube representative stated: “We are aware that there is a big difference between simulated or dramatized violence, like that of movies, TV series or video games, and real-world violence. So we want to be sure of constantly and effectively applying our guidelines for violent or graphic content.
However do not believe that now you can do what you want by publishing violent videos on YouTube, since a form of control remains and in extreme cases violence in video games will also be censored.
